It all started with a pizza….
The story of Slicey started when founder Niall was enjoying a delicious pizza, on holidays in Italy with his family. His son was given some crayons and drew a pizza slice character and called him Slicey. He turned to his Dad and urged him to create a real pizza slice called Slicey for people to enjoy. And so the journey began…
When Niall returned home he began his research but found when we spoke to consumers they all said that while they wanted pizza as a snack, they were reluctant to turn their oven on for 20-30 minutes for just one slice, so the idea was parked for 10 years.
Years later, when on their travels in Sicily, his family had become particularly fond of Sicilian style pizza - a rectangular slice, with a thicker sourdough base. After one meal, they took some home to reheat the next day. First they tried the oven, but it dried the slices out. Next they gave the pan method a go, but found one side burned before the other was heated through. Finally, they gave the airfryer a shot and it heated the pizza to perfection.

This got Niall thinking, what if he could use the airfryer to create a pizza snack that delivered the perfect pizzeria texture and flavour his family loved so much? This thought sparked the memory of ‘Slicey’ his son had imagined a decade previously. This time, could Slicey be reimagined into a Sicilian style pizza that fit perfectly into an airfryer for restaurant quality pizza at home?
From that moment, Niall began the journey to find the perfect Italian hand-made pizza with natural and locally sourced ingredients that cooked perfectly as a snack in under ten minutes. He tried regular frozen pizzas but the flavour wasn’t up to scratch and the airfryer burned the top before the base was cooked.
Niall’s search led him to Rome, where he approached the makers of the best quality pizza he could find, explaining his dream of creating a pizza specifically made to be cooked perfectly in an airfryer. 9 months, 14 batches and over 200 samples testing and trialing later, Slicey was born.
Slicey’s unique production process ensures it cooks perfectly in an airfryer. The base is made using only traditional methods (with no additives or preservatives!) - and is leavened twice over 25 hours at different temperatures before it’s cooked. It’s then frozen so that it heats to perfection when cooked at 170 over 8 minutes in an airfryer.
